Captain's Quarters Comments: Gallup: Hillary Losing Ground

  • Scott Wiggins · 2 years ago
The decades long history of Clinton lies and scandal are well documented. From Charlie Trie to Norman Hsu, from Gennifer Flowers to Monica Lewinsky, to pardons for Marc Rich and Puerto Rican terrorists. This is the Clinton legacy and our National nightmare. What is not mentioned nearly enough however is HRC's total lack of qualifications for the job of President. Where is the life experience in business, government or the military which could give her some tools for dealing with the Global economy or our own thirteen trillion dollar economy, our millions of active and reserve serving in the military, our enemies from Iran to Venezuela, our current mortgage and energy crises? It is not there. She spent her life as Mrs. Bill Clinton. Her reaching for the highest office in the land is a blatant display of hubris which could have a decades long negative impact on our country. We do not assign the wives of business or military executives to take over companies or commands. Why would we do this for the Presidency?

Hillary's ship has begun to take on water.

    Boom.

Just a few days ago, Captain Ed urged caution in counting Hillary out, reminding us that the democrat Establishment can see her through to nomination via superdelegates.

The theory is, even if the HMS Hillary loses the early states, she has firewalls separating the forward primaries from the more secure ones behind them; but isn't this the exact concept Harland and Wolff used to ensure the Titanic would be unsinkable?

Question, can Fleetwood Mac sing Nearer My God to Thee?.

I'm certainly no Hillary fan, so wathcing her sink might be fun.

If in fact she does sink, however, it will be even more fun to watch the post-mortems, recriminations, and finger-pointing by the Democrats. Funniest of all will be watching the Dems make up excuses for why she failed.
  • Good Captain · 2 years ago
Assuming her downfall in the primary, does anyone here think that the "Clinton-machine" which has stayed remarkably in tact for well over 10 years now would crack up resulting in a deluge of information information concerning the workings of Bill's Administration?
  • NoDonkey · 2 years ago
"It would be a free-fall, if the Democrats had a candidate who could take advantage of Hillary."

If only. The other two leading Democrats are as appallingly mediocre and unqualified as HIllary.

At least Obama seems likable enough, which is more than you can say for the shrieking Hillary or the slimy Edwards. I predict Obama wins the nomination.
  • MarkJ · 2 years ago
Sure. And I predict Obama will lose the general election--bigtime. The Republican nominee (i.e., Giuliani, McCain, or Romney) will nail him to the wall in the presidential debates and quickly show him to be the jelly-spined, platitude-spewing, dangerously naive man we all know he is.

And, oh yeah, odds are at any presidential debate Obama won't be able to solemnly intone about how "courageous" he was in opposing the invasion in Iraq since, by Fall 2008, even Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi won't be able to deny that we've defeated Al Qaeda there. Hell, if we're able to kill or capture Bin Laden by then, Obama will definitely be dead meat.

If cHillary choked, plan on seeing Goracle diving in to save the party goes one meme.

However, now that he's jumped the shark with his Nobel, it only makes him more of a joke than a serious contenda.

Yeah, this will be as fun to watch as the antics of the Minnow castaways. Bwahaha
  • Stephen · 2 years ago
Two thoughts: Although I am a Rudy supporter at this point, this New Yorker is hoping for a McCain comeback. I would enthusiastically support him in a general election. For those of us And I think he can win handily. Huckabee would be a disaster for the party. Second, although Hillary is losing support, that support does not seem to be going to Obama or Edwards. Rather, these potential voters must be gravitating to the undecided column. I think the next several months will be very interesting.

Exactly how many clowns can this three run circus take on?
  • hermie · 2 years ago
Algore, the High Priest of the Church of Climate Change (Formerly the Church of Global Warming), has far more power and influence now in his unelected and unaccountable position, that any POTUS.

Besides, he'd have to give up the billions he'd make off his Carbon Offset scam. If he wasn't 'principled' enough to give up his Occidental Petroleum stock or his Zinc Mine investments as a 'concerned environmentalist', he sure isn't going to do it now.
  • HNAV · 2 years ago
This was to be expected, as the continued focus on the unethical Clintons was bound to make some lose their hazy nostalgic notions of the malfeasant Clintons.

Hillary and Bill are liars, and their facade was revealed long ago.
  • Jim · 2 years ago
This is what happens when you start all this campaigning so god awful early. The more you see and hear, the more you understand. I would have thought that the democrats would have known that and done everything they could have to keep their real positions a secret for as long as possible.
  • Lightwave · 2 years ago
"It would be a free-fall, if the Democrats had a candidate who could take advantage of Hillary."

Which illustrates brilliantly the difference between the GOP and the Dems in 2008. Republican voters know what they want: victory in Iraq and in the larger war on terror, a restrained federal budget, and a solution to illegal immigration.

Democrats on the other hand only know what they don't want: they don't want troops in Iraq, they don't want entitlements cut and they don't want to deport anyone. Increasingly, they've figured out that they don't want Hillary.

But they don't know what they *do* want. Which is why the rest of the candidates are still treading water, well behind her. Hillary's still going to most likely win the nomination as a result, and as a result, she'll lose the general election in a bloodbath.
  • AmendmentX · 2 years ago
Ah, the ongoing cavalcade and panoply of politics! And watching the experts twist and turn, crash and burn.
I want Hillary to run. I want her to be nominated. I want her and her husband to finally, finally be taken off the world stage as much as possible. And to hopefully take Uncle Jimmy Carter with them.
Just heard this: a poll of likely Iowa caucus goers shows Hillary still ahead of Obama.
I had hoped that Hillary would lose Iowa and be crippled, but not out. I want Rodham Clinton to run but run hobbled. If she loses the nomination, do we face an Obama? A new fresh face, well spoken? Does she reach out and make Obama her VP candidate to have him pull back?
Remember, the Bill is a master politician.
  • SwabJockey05 · 2 years ago
X man, If the Hildabeast loses, do you really think that'll take the Clinton Team off the world stage? If she looses, it will be because of the Right Wing Conspiracy. Plus, as you mentioned, getting thumped over the noggin by the electorate did nothing to take Carter off the stage. Nope, we're stuck with the corrupt, slimy Clintons for the duration. The Dhimmicrats love them too much.
  • Steve-o · 2 years ago
Hi Ed. I think you meant "free-for-all" rather than "free-fall." The Clinton machine is still very strong, the voters will have to do the dirty work. Gore is lurking if Hillary continues to drop. He won't be able to resist the saviour role if she is mortally wounded.

  • JonPrichard · 2 years ago
This is a crazy election year and voter dissatisfaction with all politics is making it difficult for establishment types. Or even people we've seen a lot of over the years. This dynamic leaves the door open for the unknown stranger to ride to the rescue.

Paul at Powerline posted a piece on Huckabee that brings all this home. Here's what he wrote "My main objection to Huckabee -- the reason why he's my fifth choice out of five -- is that I lack confidence in his ability to fight terrorism. It's not just that he lacks experience in this realm, though that's certainly the case. The real problem is that he's too moralistic (which is not the same thing as moral)." The link: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2007/12/...

This reminds me of another time when voters were unrealistically dissatisfied and elected someone totally unqualified for the job...and he was a moralistic weenie that brought most of modern-day terrorism to our doorstep. Jimmy Carter. Mike Huckabee is the new Jimmy Carter and we should be afraid, very afraid.
  • flenser · 2 years ago
My main objection to Huckabee -- the reason why he's my fifth choice out of five -- is that I lack confidence in his ability to fight terrorism. It's not just that he lacks experience in this realm, though that's certainly the case.

I'm no fan of Huckabee, but there is no candidate running who has any experience in fighting terrorism.
  • NoDonkey · 2 years ago
Except for the man who had New York City fire, police and other emergency services working on and regularly drilling on his administration's plan for what to do if a terrorist strike hit.

And because I'm sure you will deny it existed or that it was "his", it's well documented by Fred Siegel in the Prince of the City, among other places.
  • flenser · 2 years ago
it's well documented by Fred Siegel in the Prince of the City

I'm glad to see you're such a big fan of liberal Democrats. Have you ever looked up who and what Fred Siegel is?

And, assuming for the moment that Rudy had "New York City fire, police and other emergency services working on and regularly drilling on his administration's plan for what to do if a terrorist strike hit", which I very much doubt, what does that have to do with the initial question, which was experience in combating terrorism?
  • Math_Mage · 2 years ago
Actually, the initial question was how much Huckabee's moralistic tendencies would get in the way of his ability to combat terrorism. Thanks for playing.
  • Del_Dolemonte · 2 years ago
So you're admitting that Hillary's husband did nothing to fight terrorism in his 8 years in office?
  • JonPrichard · 2 years ago
Well I think you miss Mirengoff's point anyway. His real problem is with the moralistic approach Huckabee seems to take which is dangerously naive and no way to manage one's self-defense.
  • flenser · 2 years ago
Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani are two of the most dislikable people in American public life today. It's disturbing that they are where they are. With any luck, both of them will be a footnote in history when November 2008 comes around.

    Ed,

You just got a big plug from El Rushbo for this story.

I wonder if Rush ever posts comments.

I think he does - Tom Shipley, that's not your real name, is it?

It will be interesting to see how Hillary spins the indictment of bag man Norman Hsu this afternoon.

15-count indictment handed down by the US District Court of Manhattan calling his actions a Ponzi scheme involving over 20 millions. Reported by AP though the link below is via FoxNews. Amazingly, the AP mentions Hsu is a Democrat though is careful not to link his actions with Herself the Cold and Joyless. Maybe Hsu will Hsing his way out of this and finally Hsink her Hsleazy Hself?

  • JonPrichard · 2 years ago
It WOULD be interesting but both she and the MSM will simply ignore the matter and that will be that.
  • viking01 · 2 years ago
Not long before the Kerry campaign the Swift Boat veterans and their knowledge of Kerry were unknown. How quickly that changed. Kerry is still waging a war between his ears against them.

When Hillary must criticize Obama's kindergarten aspirations that's a healthy sign her war machine has thrown a few bolts.
  • sherlock · 2 years ago
Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani are two of the most dislikable people in American public life today.

One key difference - Rudy fights America's enenies. Hillary, like most Democrats, fights Republicans, even when it helps America's enemies.
  • Peggy McGilligan · 2 years ago
Besides the fact that it only aired on radio, two things about the debate stood out to me. First: the candidates were way too easy on each other, and the respective (comprehensive) plans each planned to have in place to deal with complex issues from immigration to Iran.

Second: Hillary's elocution skill, or lack thereof. Until then, Hillary just sounded like a ruptured duck. But as I listened to her butcher syntax, it became clear that she lacks the fundamental knowledge to articulate a simple sentence. I was appalled. Perhaps people lack respect for the English language - because they don't speak it. Perhaps the Chinese blacked-out Hillary in 1995, for that reason. Anyway, I had heard that Hillary failed the BAR Exam in Washington, DC (were that possible), but passed it in Arkansas (surprise, surprise). Yet, Hillary claims to have a lifelong interest in education. So, perhaps this should come as no shock: http://theseedsof9-11.com

REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATS RISING IN REVOLT

Just as the real Ronald Reagan Conservatives are revolting to crush the pretentious Podhoretz Neo-Cons; the real Jack Kennedy Liberals are revolting to crush the pretentious Leiberman Neo-Libs.

The Neocons and Neolibs are trapped in middle, with the traditional Conservatives and Liberals fast closing in on them.

The World is watching and cheering them on; it is the beginning of the end of Era of the Ugly American.
  • wolfwalker · 2 years ago
Ed, have you forgotten all the rigged polls we've seen over the last four years concerning support for President Bush and the war? Have you forgotten how the guys over at Powerline, and sometimes you yourself, dug into the demographics and the question-wording and discovered how the polls were being slanted by biased sampling and loaded phrasings? Why do you think these polls are any more accurate than those were?
  • Del_Dolemonte · 2 years ago
We'll know for sure when the next CNN Poll comes out. If that one echoes the others, she's in trouble. That's because CNN's polling is now down by longtime Clinton lackey Vinod Gupta, who in fact is co-hosting a Hillary fund raiser this week.

If even Vinod sees her losing ground, things must be very nasty indeed.
