Thanks for standing up to a couple folks who seem needlessly cynical on this whole thing. I'm still undecided, but think this MLK issue is no big deal. It's hardly Al Gore claiming to have invented the internet. If anything reading the link gave me more respect for the Romney family. George Romney really seemed to be ahead of his time (certainly ahead of George Bush Sr. on this issue). Ironically, I think if your link gets out it should (in a perfect world) help Romney. I'm impressed that there are two historical documents (including one by a prominent author) that support the Mitt Romney view. Even if one doesn't buy the specifics, it brings to light what a great family they have been through the years. One more "devastating attack" like this one, and I may join the Romney campaign.

I've got to assume from your tirade that either you or a family member work for the NYPD. If so, thank you for your service. If not, what makes you such a cynic? You a bitter dem, or a supporter of another GOP candidate than can't handle a little good news from a competitor. I'm not (yet anyway) a Romney supporter, but am willing to give anyone their due when they deserve it. Even if he isn't my choice for president, he does seem like a heck of a good guy.

I think he comes across as extremely bright and capable. And a man of solid character whose positions have evolved such that the is easily the most attractive Republican candidate. And that's saying a lot as IMHO the leadership qualities of big 4 of the GOP far surpass those of the wee three Donkeys.

I feel the same way. However, see the above link. I don't know if there's any meat to it, but if there is, it could make some devastating attack ads against Romney considering how prominent a place he made that in his faith speech to defend himself against legitimate questions about being a member of a faith, which was officially and practically racist until he was a 31-year old man.

Romney would be my favorite candidate if I didn't have doubts about his sincerity on social issues due to past statements.
However, my impression of the man has been rising steadily: first from the radio interview in which he was recorded during the break without his knowledge - very impressively handled and a good insight into how the man thinks. Then from the Bork endorsement. This ad continues the trend.

Romney may be the default GOP candidate. Rudy was the strong defender of our freedoms as the Dems tried so hard to lose the war in Iraq, but now it appears that domestic concerns outweigh foreign policy---thanks to Petraeus & the Surge & our brave fighting men.

Romney has the resume and the appearance of a managerial type, a governor rather than a Mayor of a fractious zoo of a city. Huckabee is also a governor, though not of an "important" state like liberal MAssachusetts.

Every time I see Rudy's eyes bulge as he speaks, and check out Huckabee's strange sentence commutations and strong "Christian" backing from home-schoolers and buckle-of-the-Bible-belters, I cringe a bit. Is this guy ready for foreign policy when he never heard of the NIE on Iran?

In my heart, I'm a Fredhead, but think he lacks the energy & drive---plus "experience" as a Senator reminds me of the three top Dems, who also are lawyers like Fred.

McCain just has that flakiness on the border & illegals, so I guess it's sort of a process of elimination & Romney is the last man standing.

He sure beats the Troika of lawyer/senator types on top of the Dem greasy pole.

On the other hand, this could be BAD news for Romney, which goes to my earlier theory that his big speech on faith at the Bush library was a mistake because of who he left out (Deists, atheists), and now a much bigger mistake for an unexpected reason. Link worth reading.

I liked the ad. The more I learn about Romney the more I like him. This was something that showed brains and heart. All the other Chirstmas ads (Huck, Guiliani, McCain) will be forgotten but who could forget Romney's. It leaves a good impression

So, yes, you have no reason whatsoever to assume Mitt Romney, the 50+ people from his company and 250+ people he recruited from other companies, weren't coordinating with the police, do you?

IF your theory is true -- and I'm sure it isn't -- then what it shows is he was more effective than the police in this one case. And hallelujah for that, were it true. But I doubt it was. I'm sure the police were in the loop and they would have been thrilled too.

Why don't you just take joy at this success and instead point out the strengths of your favored candidate?

Mitt Romney never went out of his way to knock McCain's war record as a fighter pilot wing leader and POW or Guiliani's dismantling the New York mafia and leading New York through 9/11. And I can't imagine either of those men dissin' Romney for this.

Why don't you try to join them in class?

Hear, hear! I'm not a fan of his faith. I think I've made that blindingly clear elsewhere at the Captain's Quarters. But Mitt Romney's leadership and organizational skills? They're top notch. This story also shows his humanity.

I think Mitt Romney is SO focussed and SO professional he comes across as stiff... however, when a decision was required, he acted to help save a life and shut down his company to do so.

This is the first political ad that had me searching for a Kleenex box half way through. Fortunately, I-25 was a parking lot and I didn't put others at risk.

This ad is powerful and I couldn't think of anything else for an hour... First thing when I got home I had to go to Mitts web site and show it to my wife.

I am not certain, but sometimes my instinct senses some lean.

Mitt Romney has a great record, is a huge success, ethical, energetic, optimistic, professional, moral, sound, reasoned, articulate, conservative.

The bias of a few is vivid, but some of the same have a strange jaded view of the current President who has served us all so well after 9-11.

Romney deserves a fair chance.

I don't know that I'd go quite that far, Maquis. However, I guess it would depend upon your definition of vigilante. He did enlist his own employees to conduct the search and did set up his own command center to direct the search. So, if by vigilante you mean a person who takes the law into his own hands, I guess maybe I would go that far.

Friends, family, co-workers help each other all the time. Someone goes missing and there are scads of people out walking the streets and fields, putting up signs, manning the phones.

Right now there are thousands of people, average ordinary people reaching into their own pockets putting together care packages to send to our troops overseas. And participating in countless other charitable endeavors, giving their time, energy and money for many different causes. I just saw an article about a group called 50% League, about people who give away 50% or more of their income.

It's not really all that unusual. Those people just aren't running for President.

It shows many things, not just command authority. How about shutting down a profitable investment company and moving it to another city for an indeterminate amount of time and leading a tireless and well-thought out search -- including the strategy, one of five, which eventually lead to success -- for a friend's child because he cared enough to do so?

Guiliani and Bush both received justified credit for their accomplishments in a situation each had to face. Mitt Romney's friend, Robert Gay, can give Romney credit for helping to accomplish the most important thing in the world for Mr. Gay even when Romney didn't have to do so.

I lost my dog once and deputized several friends and family to help find her. Fortunately someone saw one of our posters and called it in so she was returned home.

Okay, that probably seems inappropriate. Obviously a missing girl is far more critical than my dog. But my point is, exactly what is this video supposed to show? That's a rhetorical question. I know it's supposed to show command authority. How does it compare to the videos of Rudy Guiliani during and after 9/11? Or even George W. Bush standing on that pile of rubble at Ground Zero talking through the bullhorn to those rescue workers. Those were all unscripted moments.
