Captain's Quarters Comments: Something's Happening?

  • SheetAnchor · 1 year ago
It is absolutely incredible that it is almost a year away from a presidential election, and for some reason so many supposedly conservative voters, people who purportedly think critically, have seemingly because of political pundits and news commentators, decided first that Senator Thompson was lazy, and upon this erroneous characterization being vitiated by his 50-city Iowa bus tour in 2-3 weeks, and better than predicted performance in Iowa, beating Senator McCain, not to mention his successful legal, polictical, and acting careers, that now, after his clearly winning debate performance in South Carolina, it is too late for his candidacy for... comment continues here:

I'm so sick of hearing people say--"If he doesn't win (insert state here) he's done, or some other nonsense.

These stupid MSM events mean nothing....repeat...nothing.

What is decided is not just decided by delagates at the convention. It's going to be decided just like many previous ones were. By the groundswell and wants of the American People.

But there is a truth in this early part of the race.

    MONEY

Money is needed by Fred to saturate the airways with his ads and propaganda. If he is not heard and seen, Americans will not vote or scream for him. Remember, most Americans that have computers don't know how to use them for other than recipes, weather, sports and games. They rely on the TV and Radio for their news and political information.

So send a little money to Fred.

I'm astonished by the way none of the talking heads will even mention his name. The McLaughlin Group today talked up South Carolina as a McCain / Huckabee race. It was frustrating.

(Unrelated to this topic, please visit my political blog, "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Thanks.)
  • Math_Mage · 1 year ago
The Economist didn't bother to mention him in their primary analysis either. But then, they spent barely 2 pages on the Republican race (as opposed to several articles on Barack vs. Hillary) and most of that was about how it's McCain's race to lose, so I don't think they paid much attention to begin with.

Oh, wait, found one sentence, about how Thompson fell asleep at the wheel after initial publicity. Yeah, that really counts as analysis.

    "Thompson Comes Alive"

Welcome back from the living dead Fred:

    I wonder how Fred's feeling
Is there ringing in his ears?
There are millions more voters to relate to in SC
    Who can we belive in
When they close the voting booth's door
There has to be a force who do I choose?

The stars are out and shinning, but all I really want to know...
Oh won't you show us the way
We want Fred ...to show us the way
    Not Romney today,
Yes, Fred, take South Carolina, your way!

Well, I can see the reason
    You're living on your nerves
When voters cast their votes you will emerge!

Fred's stopped swimming in a circle
    He's starting to arise
He's passionate and plays his part
Well we are now believing, andt all Iwereally want to know...
That you will take South Carolina all the way!

We want Fred, to show us the way (everyday)
We want Fred ..to show us the way
    Not John McCain

We want you day after day
We wonder if we're dreaming of victory,
    Yet feel so unashamed
We can't belive this is happening so soon

WeI watch you when you're debating, and then want to vote for you

Oh Fred, won't you show us the way (everyday)
We want Fred ...to show us the way
We will vote for you day after day
    Chuck Huckabee he's overplayed,
Oh Fred, just show us the way (everyday)
We want Fred ...to show the way
I want you day after day

Excellent! Maybe Rush Limbaugh's parody singer will put this and one for each of the other candidates to music. That'll be a hoot. :)

FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.

During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served under both Presidents Carter and Reagan (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.

I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of America’s armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at www.fred08.com . I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.

Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment — all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.

Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to “fix” this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.

For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesn’t shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesn’t say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.

During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.

As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese government’s attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committee’s report).

As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.

Don’t be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his “laziness.” As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s issues.

I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates’ views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.

Please help Fred win in South Carolina:

Oh, great! Comparisons with Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris coming in 10... 9... 8...
  • keemo · 1 year ago
Fred absolutely took Huckleberry apart; stripped him naked in front of millions.. If Fred can keep that same energy and bravado, good things can happen in time for the real GOP primaries coming down the shoot soon enough. Fred needs to dissect McCain in the very near future. If anybody can stop McCain's momentum, the Fred man can...
  • MrLynn · 1 year ago
Then of course there is the rumor that Fred is really a stalking horse for McCain, and will throw his votes/delegates to McCain at the opportune time. . .

    Let's hope it's not true.

Then you haven't heard the M. Levine interview. Fred pounded both McCain & Hucklebee. Given McCain's temper, there's no way John would forgive Fred. Either you have to believe Fred's message, or believe that he's a clever actor, wooing the base before handing the spoils over to John.

I will NOT vote for McNutt, Rooo Deee, or Rummy! If necesary I will write in Fred! My first choice is Duncan Hunter, but he doesn't look like he's catching on at all!! Sad!

Voted for Boosh twice, Lesser of two evils thing, but he has really disappointed me with his Domestic spending, shamnesty, etc!

I will NOT donate to the RNC, they just don't seem to get it! When GB and the party backed Sphincter against the conservative gentleman, I think his name was Toomey???, That did it for me!

At least Fred won't show up with a fake orange suntan or his face stretched tight from a Botox assault last night. The Frampton reference is funny as heck...maybe Fred can get that rubber tube thingy that Peter used to "bend" his voice and the Guitar's sound and do a debate or a FOX News segment with it.
  • magicarb · 1 year ago
That rubber tube thingy is a Talkbox. I've always liked Richie Sambora's use of it on Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer. Here's hoping Fred has more than a (feeling? No, that was Boston) prayer in the upcoming primaries.

    Sambora, of course, used to be married to Heather Locklear. Captain, feel free to post Photoshops of *her* anytime. :-}
  • ERNurse · 1 year ago
The rubber tube thingy is called a "voice bag." When used by a skilled musician (such a Frampton, Sambora, etc.), it is really cool. When used by a mediocre musician (i.e., ME), it sounds like a yak being slowly drowning in its own mucus.

Many of those old timers have aged not so well. I used to wonder what kind of drugs Peter Gabriel was on in order to come up with some of the early Genesis lyrics. Dude is quite fat and bald now. This photo looks like Frampton.
Funny, I have Hunt For Red October on now on AMC. I was kind of surprised because Fred Thompson is in it and I thought candidates old movies were a no no. It was from 1990 and he of course was eighteen years younger.
  • newton · 1 year ago
Hey! I was watching Die Hard 2 Friday on FOX Movie Channel. I said then, "Boy! Fred sure looks quite middle-aged there!" And I was about seventeen years old when that film was released.

Frampton does Geico commercials? (And, Ed, thanks a helluva lot. I'm going to have nightmares from that picture.)

Fred is my second choice after Rudy and, in this wide open campaign, one win can revitalize any campaign. But I have to wonder if this is too little, too late.
    --Anthony
  • brightwinger · 1 year ago
The definition of Chutpah has to be a Rudy supporter accusing Fred of being too little too late.

    IA - no show
    NH - no show
    WY - no show
    NV - no show
    SC - no show
    MI - no show

Rudy ain't just late; he's a no show. When is he going to start running...2012?
  • Anthony Ragan · 1 year ago
You misread me. I wasn't writing that to pimp for Rudy or chastise or mock Fred --I happen to like him quite a bit-- but to make an observation that, yes, could apply to Giuliani, too.
  • ERNurse · 1 year ago
Frampton jumped the shark when he realeased "I'm in you." The he did the Mike Douglas show. Then he appeared on Baa Baa Black Sheep. Career suicide. Now he does Geico commercials. Sad. Really, really sad.
  • brightwinger · 1 year ago
Is he the voice of the gecko?

Those are funny commercials. I'd trade paychecks any day.

  • bikerken · 1 year ago
McCain is getting a lot of free love from the MSM and jackasses like Micheal Medved, the RINO of the RADIO. There is a definite pattern of the libs and MSM and a few RINO's saying nothing bad about Huck or Mac because they are the ideal candidates for someone who only want's a RINO in office again.
  • AH_C · 1 year ago
How do you figure? To date, McCain gained from crossover voters then stalled in SC (in 00). I think he'll stall again n SC cause he hasn't convinced most evangelicals that he's for them.

Most of the latter States don't allow crossovers or unregistered to vote. I doubt McCain gains traction in places where only registered Repubs can vote and that's where the bulk of the delegates are. It's even questionable if he'll win his own home State.
  • MrLynn · 1 year ago
If the evangelicals rule in SC, then the Huckster will win, not Fred. That will still help stop McCain, though. Then if Mitt wins tomorrow in MI, we have to look to FL, Rudy's only chance (by dint of bad planning). Should be a much more interesting winter.

But if McCain can win in SC, even if Mitt takes MI (his native state), McCain may be unstoppable on Super Tuesday. Nobody except maybe Mitt has the money to campaign in all those states, and familiarity trumps everything else.

Don't blame me; I wouldn't have designed such a stupid system.

I remember the album very well - it was so played to death that I wanted to tear my ears of when another cut from it came on the radio. Only in the last couple of years has it been long enough that I can stand to listen to any of it again (and it was pretty good stuff - just hideously over-exposed).

That's for sure! I saw him live when he was in one of Ringo's All-Starr Bands. That particular version was pretty good, as it also had Cream bassist Jack Bruce. When they started doing the old Cream stuff like "Sunshine of Your Love", Peter nailed every note perfectly.

confession time; When I'm in my car alone I play the decade of the 40s (XM) and am happy as a clam. When my daughter is with me we alternate...one hour of the 70s and then my "elevator music". She plays it low since her hearing is still good but I admit that it sounds a lot better to me now than it did at the time (especially Queen). I dread the day when my granddaughter shares an hour with us although by that time I should have hearing aids to turn off! In the meantime, is it too late for a new Republican candidate to appear on the scene? I don't mean to be disrespectful Cap'n but this was funny when it was Shu but not so when it is a Republican candidate.(MO)

Speaking of looks- how about someone Lincolnesque in appearance? I was throwing old magazines and glanced at one talking presiential politics 30 months prior to 2004 election.
Cracked me up to see comment on JF Kerry- "smart, tough, tireless, and, what's more, both a war hero and antiwar activist. Talk about having it all! Oh yeah, and some people think he looks like Abe Lincoln."
Yeah, that's the ticket. Some people also think he's a horse's ass and a phony POS who looks like Lurch. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Let's look at voices: Imagine listening to either Paul or Hillary for four years? Anyway, the media seems to be setting the agenda as to which candidates are viable.

  • Palamas · 1 year ago
Being a Southerner and winning in the South are not synonymous. I seem to remember Al Gore having some problems in Dixie. And I wouldn't look for John Edwards to exactly tear it up down South, either. But if Fred's the GOP nominee, I don't imagine he'll have much trouble winning Tennessee.
  • Del_Dolemonte · 1 year ago
