Dear Senator Specter,

The coaching staff of the New England Patriots and the National Football League were the victims of an unfortunate accident. We appreciate the concerns of elected officials in Washington. I would like to take this time to explain how this terrible incident occurred.

The National Football league were in the process of destroying some of our own practice tapes for the purpose of propriety. The standard operating procedure for destroying team's practice tapes is by use of one National Football League approved Model 91-38 Mannlicher-Carcano.

The afore mentioned tapes are controlled in one room. We call it the NFL tape depository. Practice tapes to be destroyed are categorized and stored on the south side of the room. Tapes in deposition are stored on the far Northeast wall.

Tapes are destroyed one at a time by a highly trained marksman. Monday was "practice tape execution day," as it is fondly referred. On the day in question, Julie Mangini, witness to said destruction, noticed one of the tapes in evidence had been struck by a round. She tried to put some of the pieces back, but to no avail.

We immediately formed a commission to investigate how this one round could have hit the practice tape, turned 53 degrees to the left, then striking the tape in deposition without striking another object.

We have a theory.

That reminds me - I recall trying to watch a game through NFL Network via broadband Internet connection once. It was fine for a few minutes. Then they cut away from the actual game to a couple of guys in a studio talking and talking and TALKING about everything but the game I had tuned in to see. And the feed would not go back to the game except for a few minutes here and there. They even went to the freakin' sideline reporter for many minutes. You could see the players on the field doing things behind him but no, we couldn't just watch them while he was talking because this reporter had some absolutely scintillating topic of discussion about wonderfully banal minutiae that obviously demanded vast preference of observation of his stupid face.

Someone else tried it the following week and this time he got to watch the whole game, so maybe it was a fluke. I share your dislike and suspicions about a cable network wasting Congress' time on the NFL, but that aside, I side with Comcast on the issue itself.

Also, Specter needs to lose a primary for 2010.

Members of Congress already have term limits as per the Constitution. Each Senator may only hold office for 6 years, a 6 year term. Representatives may only hold office for 2, 2 year term. After their term is expired, they must be elected to serve another term.

What you want are eligibility limits like not being able to run for they same office after more than two or three terms. For example, the Presidency. After two terms in office, the President is ineligible to run for another term. That's a limitation of eligibility for office, like like the age limitation, not term limitations, like length of term in office. I know I'm picking nits here, but it's important for people to fully understand. There's a big difference between term limits and eligibility limits for those who hold public office. Le's not confuse the two, politics and elections are confusing enough as it is.

I'm a Jet fan and I have no love for the Evil Genius Belichick. That being said, Specter's second largest contributer (just over $100K) is Comcast, which is in a dispute with the NFL over the new NFL Channel. Maybe he has a bit of a conflict of interest.

There's no need to get an "updated version" to find why Congress has the authority to "investigate the NFL. Or MLB for that matter."

Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution states that Congress has the authority "To constitute Tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court."

According to the Constitution, Congress has the authority to create ether a senatorial tribunal for the Senate or a representative tribunal for the House if the members of Congress consent. This tribunals can be comprised of other members of Congress and they can compel any citizen to testify. This has happened several times throughout our history.

Specter may be overreaching here, but he and Congress does have the authority to investigate and even compel testimony in any congressional tribunal, commonly referred to as hearings.

This is getting to be farcical in nature. With all of the problems going on in this country does Congress need to get involved in this? It was bad enough of a waste of time for them to look at steroids in baseball, now this? I'm suprised Congress doesn't have a negative approval rating rather than just a low one.

Except aht it wsn't cheating. It never was cheating, and the only folks who refer to it as cheating are those with personal axes to grinf. It is not cheating to film or in any other way observe the opposing team's signals. It never has been. If you do a quick search, you'll find the NFL's rule bool omline in a pdf format. Know what? Nothing in it about taping signals, etc. What you want to find is the NFL pdf of it's operations manual. In it, you'll find a very small part where it talks about where on the field, and in what manner, cameras and other recording devices man be placed. That is the rules ciolation that the Patriots were fined for, and NOT for the taping of signals.

Heck, you can even email the league's PR staff and they will forward you a copy of Goodell's statement on the issue. Of course, that might be difficult to read, what with your mind all made up about cheating and all that, but it's worth the time to examine.

The Patriots have not cheated, and were not caught cheating. Deal with it.

But you are dead wrong here. Patriots nation is still as strong and as large as Red Sox nation, and we do care very much about our Patriots and their bid for history. If Kraft's organisation hadn't shown the Red Sox management how to build a winning team, there would probably have been no World Series Champions from Boston. That's fact, and something old man Shaugnesset simply can't bring h8imself to admit.

That attitude is typical of the Globe, which, being owned by the NYT, is about as much a New England paper of record, as Mitt Romney is a New Englander got once having lived here.

The Patriots are on the verge of winning their fourth championship in the last 7 years. The Red Sox have 2 in the past 80+. It's nice to see the Sox win, but they hardly represent the team spirit, the blue-collar values of hard work and perseverence, of professionalism, that the Patriots do.

Here's hoping for that perfect season!

Specter is a bitter, clueless, geriatric version of Elliott Spitzer. Oh wait, Spitzer's a Democrat?
Bush & Rove were stupid enough to support Specter, instead of the only conservative in the race (Toomey), all in the name of the Republican Party. They tried the same with with Linc Chafee, but we drop-kicked his ass back to the trust fund farm.

These old school politicians need to be retired, that's for sure. Replaced with a younger breed of politician that understands capitalism and what drives-governs our free markets. Every time politicians get in the way of the free markets, we (the people) suffer the consequences.

The Pats got caught cheating,they should at the very least been made to forfeit

It looks so pretty.... like it's taunting me.
I hate this delay, it is so hard to resist the Brawl Spoilers out there, i mean i already have spoiled myself quite majorlly with the Final Smashes and the complete Roster. *sigh*
I wish it would come out fast but i would defintiely not play that price to play it, i could wait if it meant getting it at a decent price. plus i think i would just be overly confused with the japanese text, lol.
